O.C. Marathon Kids Race

First, I have to tell you that the blog seems to be a bit Maggie-centric. I'm not discluding (is that a word?) Katie, but her favorite thing right now is reading. There's just no such thing as "action" reading photos! You'll just have to wait until next month when she performs at Disneyland with her orchestra and does her trainer for a day at Sea World for some great photos of Katie.

So with that said (and my guilt alleviated) Maggie and her friend Hailey have been training the last six weeks for a 1.2 mile kids run at the O.C. Marathon. Today was race day. I think the most difficult thing was getting up at 6:00am on a Sunday morning. It was cold, but clear (thank goodness) so we headed down to the Irvine Spectrum which was just adjacent to where the race was taking place. We wandered around a bit, got the girls their shirts and then wondered why people run. It’s has to be an addiction. That’s the only way I can explain it.

The race began a bit earlier than its 9am start time and the first runners crossed the line in just a little more than 7 minutes. Maggie’s time was about 10 minutes. Not too bad for her first official race. The sponsors gave every runner a participation medal and a t-shirt.

As a write this, Maggie’s sleeping on the couch. I’m not sure if it was the race or getting up at 6am.
