"Twas the Week Before Christmas

Its T-3 days until Christmas, and the last presents for the girls were wrapped yesterday. Yea! I'm sure there will be some expected gifts but there will also be some surprises.

Tom made his seasonal call to me yesterday. "So. What do you want for Christmas?" He usually does his best shopping under pressure, but I told him, under no circumstances was he supposed to wander aimlessly around the mall, come home empty handed and then tell me about all the wonderful things he didn't get me.

My mom does the same thing to me. What's with that? Maggie did it after she went Christmas shopping. I particularly dislike the phrase, "So do you know what I almost bought you?" People do it to me on my birthday too. What's with that? At least people want to buy me beautiful things.

The girls and I went out shopping yesterday. Katie's favorite store is Borders. She developed a voracious appetite for books ever since we went to Hong Kong. She picked up two books. The first one is called "Kingdom Keepers" and it's about a group of kids who have to solve a mystery left behind by Walt Disney . . . seems pretty interesting. The second book (I can't remember the title) is an adventure about a cabin boy sailing on a pirate ship. The twist is that the cabin boy is really a girl in disguise. Katie's currently upstairs reading one of them. I fully expect her to come down any minute telling me she's done with both.

Maggie and I are just hanging out. She’s sitting on the floor (her choice) eating popcorn and watching Martha Stewart with me. She’s so excited about Christmas, and not because she’ll be getting gifts, but because she’s giving gifts. She sure has a talent of getting great presents for people. And she can really keep a secret because I have no idea what she’s got for me.

Today is Tom’s last day of work before he goes on vacation. He’s home until January 3rd. Yea! He has to work a bit late tonight because he’s got a conference call to Hong Kong this evening.

Well, I should probably start making dinner. I think it’ll be Italian meatloaf tonight. Yum!

(By the way, Tom bought me something for Christmas last night, and when he tried to tell me what he didn’t get me, I put my fingers in my ears and started humming).
